5 tips for keeping track of employees working from home.

It is more common than ever for employees to request flexible working arrangements. They can be great for people caring for children or who live far away from their workplace.

Here are our top tips for managing employees remotely:

  1. Have regular points of contact. Make sure you have your employees best contact number on hand, and touch base with them throughout the day.
  1. Keep up to date with their workload to check their productivity whilst working from home. Home offices can hold more distractions than a traditional office, so ensuring that productivity levels are consistent gives you peace of mind.
  1. Ensure that the employee has access to any equipment or documents that they may need. Using a cloud-based storage system for documents can make it easier for employees to access important information. Also make sure that all computer systems and office equipment are up to date and fully functioning.
  1. You must carry out a safety and ergonomics risk assessment if your employee is working from home. Having a Working from Home Checklist will ensure that your employees are completing work in a safe environment and with everything they need to do their job.
  1. Keep an open mind. It can be easy to assume that your employee is not doing any work because they are at home, but this is not the case. Some people work better individually, while others are more creative in a space they are comfortable in.

As long as your employee’s productivity levels are consistent, the work is getting done, and they are coming to the workplace for all important meetings, working from home can be a great way of accommodating an employee’s flexibility requests.
