Stadium cleaners underpaid just under $100,000

Melbourne’s Etihad stadium had a surprise visit from Fair Work Inspectors resulting in action against the venue’s then principal cleaning contractors. Fair Work Inspectors have found after investigation the group of contractors have underpaid just under $100,000 to their staff. The mistakes have been made due to flat rates ranging from $7, $16 and $23 per hour for staff members.

The effected staff included 25 cleaners and the work performed was between 1st February and 30th June 2017.

The Fair Work Ombudsman have enforced penalties of up to $63,000 per contravention and the owners of the 3 contracting companies face penalties of $12,600 per contravention.

A final hearing will be held on 18th February 2020 in the Federal Court in Melbourne.
