Commuting is taking a toll.

Getting to work in Australia is officially a nightmare with Australian city worker’s commute times blowing out over an hour in most cities around the country, increasing 20% in the last 10 years.

In a recently published study by Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) on the 30 July 2019, it states workers averaged 3.7 hours commuting time per week in 2002, but this had increased to 4.5 hours by 2017.

Longer commute times do not just affect your time on the road but impacts many other aspects of your life such as job satisfaction and reducing time you have for other activities.

The negative impacts go beyond the workplace, decreasing the time you might spend with your family, decreasing time for physical activities and social activities – all contributing to a person’s overall psychological well-being.

In some cases an employee may be able to request flexible work arrangements to avoid road congestion.
