Farm safety devastation

A teenage boy in Queensland is the latest victim of another devastating farm accident resulting in the amputation of his leg.

It Is alleged he was operating a farm vehicle, when one of the cables towing became snagged. The young boy kicked the cable to loosen it, but instead trapped his leg. The teenager was trapped for several hours.

OHS News reported, “Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) firefighters and local medical professionals were all on the scene.

After assessing the situation and the patient’s medical condition, the two LifeFlight Critical Care Doctors decided to perform delicate amputation surgery on the still-trapped patient.”

Despite this recent devastation, non-intentional farm related incidents in Australia have dropped since 2017, but only slightly. In 2017 there was a reported 68 on-farm deaths, and in 2018 a reported 67 on-farm accidents.

It’s more important than ever to ensure the safety of your team on your farm and to follow safety procedures.
