It is important to have a friendly, welcoming workplace, especially if you deal with clients and people regularly. Encouraging friendship within the office is another way of increasing the health and wellbeing of your employees. Here are some great benefits to friendship in the workplace.

  • Friendship increases happiness levels, which in turn increases the health and wellbeing of your employees.
  • Research shows that the younger generation report having friendships in the workplace increases happiness and motivation, encouraging them to perform better in their position and overall for the organisation.
  • Friendship can increase employee retention levels, as many employees are more likely to stay with a company because of the people and culture than because of the work they are performing.

While it is important to encourage friendships at work, keep an eye on these friendships to ensure that employees are still being productive. Having a pair or group of people that waste too much time talking and socialising can impact the productivity of the organisation. It is also important to keep an eye out for disagreements and employees fighting, as this could create tension in the workplace and result in you having to act to resolve the situation.
